Notifications reference
Every email and web push PickleFriend sends, what triggers each one, and which setting stops it.
PickleFriend sends two broad categories of message: organizer emails that flow between an organizer's group and their players, and account emails that come directly from PickleFriend to you. Both categories have their own controls.
For the controls — where to find them, how to turn categories on or off, and how to unsubscribe — see Email preferences. This article is the catalog: what sends, when, and what opt-out stops it.
Account emails (from PickleFriend)
These arrive regardless of which groups you're in, and are controlled by the two checkboxes under Profile → Email settings.
| Label in profile | What it gates |
|---|---|
| Technical announcements | Security updates, maintenance notices, critical product changes |
| Feature updates & tips | New feature announcements, tips, the one-time engagement email (see below) |
Both checkboxes save on the spot when you tick or untick them.
Account emails — full list
| Trigger | Opt-out that stops it | |
|---|---|---|
| Email verification | Immediately on registration; resend available | Not opt-outable (required to activate account) |
| Password reset | You requested it | Not opt-outable (security) |
| Engagement email ("Enjoying PickleMixer? A small favor") | Once, sent to accounts ≥14 days old | Feature updates & tips — untick it before the email sends. Sent at most once per account. |
The engagement email goes out on a slow drip (up to 50 per day across all accounts). It includes your personal referral link and links to leave a rating on Google Play, share on Facebook, or post on the community Reddit.
Organizer emails (event & group communications)
Sent on behalf of the organizer running your group. Players control them under Profile → Email settings → Manage (the per-organizer page), grouped into two toggles:
- Event Invitations — everything tied to a specific event: invites, status changes, reminders, partnership and waitlist notices.
- Announcements — group-wide broadcasts and event announcements not tied to your RSVP.
Players without a PickleFriend account can unsubscribe from any individual organizer via the unsubscribe link at the foot of any of their emails.
Event invitation emails
| Subject prefix | Trigger | Opt-out toggle | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Event invitation | INVITE: |
You were added to an event's invited list | Event Invitations |
| Cancellation / uninvite | CANCELED: |
You were removed from an event | Event Invitations |
| Waitlist promotion | YOU'RE IN: |
You moved from the waitlist to "In" | Event Invitations |
| Auto sign-in | SIGNED IN: |
An organizer's auto-sign-in rule committed you directly to "In" status | Event Invitations |
| Organizer status change | STATUS [STATUS]: |
An organizer manually changed your RSVP status (e.g. to "Out", "Waitlist", "In") | Event Invitations |
| Game-day reminder | REMINDER: |
Sent approximately 56 hours before the event to players with "In" status (checked again at send time) | Event Invitations |
The invitation email includes a count of confirmed vs. invited players, up to eight other invited names, and on ladder-league events a badge marking you as an official participant or a guest / substitute (spare).
Partnership emails
| Subject prefix | Trigger | Opt-out toggle | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Partnership formed | PARTNERSHIP FORMED IN: or PARTNERSHIP FORMED WAIT LISTED: |
A partnership was declared (you initiated it, it was declared by the other player, or it was auto-confirmed via mutual selection) | Event Invitations |
| Partnership dissolved | PARTNERSHIP DISSOLVED: |
Either player dissolved the partnership | Event Invitations |
| Outsider invited | INVITE: |
A player in the event nominated you (not yet in the group) as a potential partner | Event Invitations |
| Split partnership alert | WARNING: Split Partnership |
Sent to the organizer when a mandatory fixed-partner event ended up with partners on different statuses (one "In", one "Waitlist") | N/A — organizer alert only |
| Partner digest | (rolling summary) | Up to once per 24 hours: lists everyone who selected you as a potential partner since the last digest. Includes one-click "Partner with [Name]" links. | Separate opt-out via /preferences/partner-digest/disable?token=… in the digest footer |
Group and event broadcast emails
| Trigger | Opt-out toggle | |
|---|---|---|
| Event announcement | Organizer sent an announcement targeting players of a specific event by RSVP status | Announcements |
| Group notice (broadcast) | Organizer sent a group-wide notice from the Communications page (not tied to any event) | Announcements |
| Score link | Organizer emailed score links to players during a live mixer session | Event Invitations |
Ladder cycle movement emails
| Trigger | Opt-out toggle | |
|---|---|---|
| Promoted | Ladder cycle ran and you moved up a division | Controlled by the ladder's cycle-notification setting (organizer-level); no per-player opt-out |
| Relegated | Ladder cycle ran and you moved down a division | Controlled by the ladder's cycle-notification setting (organizer-level); no per-player opt-out |
The cycle movement email names your old and new division, and — if the cycle's event-scrub policy removed you from upcoming events in your previous division — lists each scrubbed event by name and date.
Web push notifications
Web push is optional and device-specific. Subscribe by tapping the bell icon on the /score page (during a live mixer session) or on the /schedule page (for event notifications). Each device subscribes independently; you unsubscribe the same way.
Push notifications bypass the email opt-out system — they are controlled by browser permission only. Revoking the browser permission stops all pushes from that device.
Push events — full list
| Push notification | Trigger | Who receives it |
|---|---|---|
| Round starting — court assigned | Organizer publishes a new mixer round | Players assigned to a court in that round |
| Round starting — bye | Same publish event | Players sitting out that round |
| Round republished | Organizer republished a round (a score was missing) | Players on the affected court |
| Carry-over court still open | New round published while a previous-round court is still unscored | Players on the unscored carry-over court |
| New event chat message | Organizer or player posts in the event chat thread | All invited players (excluding the sender); the organizer receives player messages |
| New booking job | Organizer added a task ("bring balls") to an event | All invited players with a subscription |
| Volunteer for booking job | A player volunteered for a task | The organizer |
| Partner interest | Another player selected you as a potential partner for an event | The selected player (debounced: at most one push per selector per 5 minutes) |
| Player dropout | A player changes their RSVP from "In" to "Out" (or equivalent) within 24 hours of the event start | All other invited players with a subscription |
Sender address
Event emails show the group owner as the sender for consistent branding, even when a collaborator or sub-organizer set up the event. The "Reply-To" header routes replies to the person who created the event.
